Computational Postdoctoral Researchers
We are actively recruiting computational postdoctoral researchers. Successful candidates will have opportunities to pursue independent research at the intersection of computational modeling, genetics, functional genomics, metabolism, cell signaling, single cell, and spatial omics, with applications to understanding biological complexity in human diseases with a focus on obesity-related disease models.
Ideal candidates should have a strong background in computational biology and omics, with expertise or research interests in at least one of the following areas:
- Genetics, epigenetics, or functional genomics.
- Metabolism, metabolic diseases (particularly obesity and diabetes), or adipose biology.
- Cancer biology, tumor microenvironment, or immunometabolism.
- Artificial intelligence (AI), deep learning, or machine learning applied to biological questions.
- Single-cell and spatial omics.
Qualifications
- A PhD and/or MD in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biology, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong interest in computational biology and interdisciplinary biomedical research.
- Experience in high-throughput sequencing data analysis.
- A strong publication track record.
- Excellent scientific communication skills, including oral presentations and scientific writing.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Python/R programming and Linux/Unix environments.
What We Offer
- A collaborative, welcoming, and supportive research environment with interdisciplinary opportunities across IGS, IHC, and UMB.
- Individualized mentorship and career development support tailored to each researcher's professional goals.
- Opportunities to develop independent research directions and lead scientific projects.
- Opportunities to collaborate with researchers in computational biology, genomics, AI, and experimental biomedical sciences.
- Access to institutional research infrastructure, computational resources, and interdisciplinary scientific expertise.
We value scientific curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and intellectual independence. Our goal is to foster a supportive research environment where every team member can pursue exciting biological questions, develop innovative computational approaches, and grow toward their long-term career aspirations.
How to Apply
Interested applicants should email the following materials to Rongbin (RZheng@som.umaryland.edu):
- An updated CV.
- Contact information for three professional references.
- A one-page research statement describing their research interests.
Bioinformatics Analyst:
The successful candidate will contribute to interdisciplinary research integrating artificial intelligence, computational genomics, and multi-omics to understand multicellular regulation in human diseases. The position provides opportunities to work with large-scale biological datasets, develop computational resources, and collaborate with researchers across computational and experimental disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to genomic research projects and scientific analysis of the data generated by those projects using a variety of database and software applications. Generate, annotate, gather or analyze data and prepare for further analysis, or research.
- Following established procedures or specific scientific protocols, add value to data generated by genome sequencing projects through assembly, annotation, curation, and quality assurance.
- Perform preliminary analysis of genomic data and format for use by other analysts or scientists.
- Integrate and analyze data from genome sequencing projects, functional genomics analysis, and other school of medicine research projects.
- Perform data mining and synthesis activities using various internal resources, public databases and publications.
- Organize genomic data with other relevant data types into databases, displays, or graphic presentations for publication and web presentation.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
- Experience with Python and/or R programming and Linux/Unix computing environments.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biology, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience in collecting, curating, harmonizing, or integrating publicly available biological datasets.
- Experience in developing or mantaining web-based databases, scientific applications, or research data portals.
How to Apply
We welcome motivated candidates who are passionate about computational research and interested in developing new approaches to address important biological questions.
Interested applicants should email their CV and a brief description of their research experience (less than one page) to Rongbin (RZheng@som.umaryland.edu). The link for a formal application is coming soon.
